Grief and Loss

After the loss of someone you love or care about, grief is a natural part of the process, which can be challenging for some people to process. Our therapists work with you to help make sense of your loss and clear the path for positive change. Grief can also arise from a variety of other life events and can take many forms.  Whatever the source of the loss, grief can be difficult to work through.

Common sources of grief include:

  • Bereavement

  • Relationship breakdowns/ divorce

  • Losing employment

  • Changes to your physical health

  • Changes occurring with ageing and change of life stage

  • Financial and/or asset loss

  • Family members leaving home

  • Changing location and moving

  • The loss of a pet

There is no right or wrong way to grieve, and we all manage and cope differently. The extent of your grief can depend on the circumstances surrounding the loss, such as the type of loss you have suffered, your own personal background and experiences, and your own coping mechanisms.

Throughout any period of grief or loss the most important thing is to be patient with yourself and the process, without expectation, and allow the journey to unfold as naturally as possible.

The process of grief for some can be overwhelming and painful, as you navigate your way through a range of complex emotions and feelings. They key is to remember that these ebbs and flows are all a natural part of grief and it can take some time to reach the point of being able to heal.

When experiencing feelings of grief and loss, it is important to seek support if needed.
